OET

OET - English language test for healthcare professionals

OET is an international English language test that assesses the language communication skills of healthcare professionals who want to register and practice in an English-speaking country. The OET exam is conducted especially for healthcare professions, which includes: Dentistry, Dietetics, Medicine, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Radiography, Speech Pathology and Veterinary Science. While selecting healthcare professionals who are non-native English-speakers, governments, healthcare boards and councils prefer OET to evaluate language skills. Healthcare professionals choose OET as it will help them prove the right level of English skill they have to work or study.

OET consists of four modules with an emphasis on communication in a healthcare environment. The four language skills assessed are : Listening test of around 50 minutes, Reading test takes 1 hour to complete, Writing test of 45 minutes and Speaking test which takes around 20 minutes. Results of OET are made available after 16 business days from the test date and the report is on a scale from 0 to 500 in ten-point increments.

  • What are the OET eligible countries?

    OET is recognized in the following countries: Australia, Canada, Ireland, Maldives, Malta, Namibia, New Zealand, Philippines, Qatar, Singapore, Spain, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates and the United States of America.

  • What is the age limit for the OET exam?

    CBLA the conducting body of the OET exam has not mentioned any age limit to be eligible for the OET exam.

  • What score do I need to pass OET?

    Most recognising boards and councils require candidates to score at least 350 in each of the four sub-tests. But to make sure you’re up-to-date with requirements, always check with the relevant boards and councils that regulate your profession.
